**Four stars, extravagant design and promising photos: the Quentin Boutique Hotel in Berlin-Charlottenburg made us curious. But there turned out to be a considerable gap between how the hotel presents itself online and the stay we actually had. Here is why breakfast ended up being our best memory.**

## A hotel stay that began with a one-kilometre walk

All we really wanted was to arrive, take our luggage up to the room and get ready for the days ahead in Berlin. Instead, we found ourselves in our car outside the Quentin Boutique Hotel in Charlottenburg with a problem: where to put it? The few, very tight parking spaces right by the building were not available to us, and they could not be reserved either. There was not even a workable way to unload our cases briefly without stopping in a no-stopping zone.

We had booked our room months in advance. We were well aware that parking is scarce in Berlin. What we had not expected was that arriving at a four-star hotel would already falter over the question of where to take your luggage out of the car for a few minutes. In the end, we were left with the multi-storey car park the hotel recommended, roughly a kilometre away. So we parked there and wheeled our suitcases back through Charlottenburg to the hotel.

The immediate surroundings did not make the walk any more pleasant. Littered corners, plenty of graffiti and Berlin's traffic chaos shaped our first impression. Of course, a hotel can do little about the conditions of its location. For trade fair visitors, the location may even be extremely practical. But anyone arriving by car should know that simply getting there can test your patience.

We spent three nights in Berlin on business from 22 to 25 October 2026 and had booked a Classic Double Room via Booking.com. We paid for the stay ourselves, and breakfast was not included in the room rate. We had chosen the Quentin Boutique Hotel mainly because of its unusual design. The photos showed a hotel that looked clearly different from the usual business hotels. Dark colours, extravagant furniture and a confident design statement promised a somewhat different stay. On top of that came four official hotel stars. Our expectations were high accordingly.

![Curved reception desk in dark wood in front of black walls, with gold-coloured triangles on the ceiling](https://storage.ghost.io/c/d1/eb/d1eb58be-ccd0-43e1-b101-0e16365e0b9f/content/images/2026/11/quentin-boutique-hotel-berlin-rezeption-1.jpg)

Lots of black and subdued lighting: the reception reminded us more of a nightclub. Photo: eingecheckt.de

## Somewhere between nightclub atmosphere and a friendly welcome

When we finally reached the lobby with our luggage, it quickly became clear that the hotel pursues its design concept consistently. Lots of black, subdued lighting and an altogether very dark atmosphere made us think more of a nightclub than of a classic hotel reception. That is not necessarily a bad thing. A boutique hotel in particular is allowed to be idiosyncratic, play with expectations and offer its guests something other than an interchangeable lobby in beige and grey.

Check-in itself was largely straightforward. The receptionist was friendly, clearly keen to help and handled the check-in without any major difficulties. Only communicating in German was somewhat difficult. Even so, we never felt we were being treated unkindly. Our impression was rather of a team that was making an effort but did not always have the right answer to hand when it came to organisational questions.

The lack of support with our parking situation was a first example of this. In a hotel of this category, we would at least have liked a helpful suggestion for unloading our luggage. Instead, we had to sort the matter out entirely on our own. It was not a particularly successful start, but we were still hoping the room would make up for the hassle.

Our Classic Double Room on the sixth floor: striking design, but long and narrow. Photo: eingecheckt.de

## A room that works better in photos than in reality

Our Classic Double Room was on the sixth floor. When we walked in, the first surprise was the layout: an elongated, relatively narrow room that had looked more spacious in the booking photos. The furnishings were certainly unusual. You could tell that a distinctive design concept had once been realised here, with eye-catching furniture, dark materials and details that were deliberately meant to be different.

But the longer we looked around the room, the more the design faded into the background. The doors showed clear scratch marks, there were stains on the wallpaper and the curtains were partly dirty and torn. Along one curtain seam in particular, the fabric had split wide open, leaving black threads and the damaged edge plainly visible. This was not minor damage that you would only discover on close inspection.

![Split curtain seam with black threads at the curtain rail](https://storage.ghost.io/c/d1/eb/d1eb58be-ccd0-43e1-b101-0e16365e0b9f/content/images/2026/11/quentin-boutique-hotel-berlin-gardine-riss.jpg)

The balcony door and its frames did not look well kept either. Dark deposits had built up in the corners and around the fittings. On one chair, we found visible remains of chewing gum and other conspicuous stains in the upholstery. Things like this have little to do with an older style of furnishing. They simply give the impression that the necessary cleaning and maintenance are not being carried out with the care they require.

![Dark deposits in the balcony door frame around the fitting](https://storage.ghost.io/c/d1/eb/d1eb58be-ccd0-43e1-b101-0e16365e0b9f/content/images/2026/11/quentin-boutique-hotel-berlin-balkontuer.jpg)

In terms of functionality, too, the room made it clear that visual effect had apparently mattered more than everyday practicality. The storage space was only just about sufficient for our luggage. This was particularly evident at the desk: its surface was studded with conspicuous steel rivets, no doubt meant to add to the industrial-style design. But anyone who wants to work properly at it with a laptop quickly realises how impractical such a design can be. On a business trip, that is more than a minor inconvenience.

![Wooden desk with steel rivets and a horse sculpture, next to the balcony door and a wall-mounted TV](https://storage.ghost.io/c/d1/eb/d1eb58be-ccd0-43e1-b101-0e16365e0b9f/content/images/2026/11/quentin-boutique-hotel-berlin-schreibtisch.jpg)

The desk with steel rivets: stylish, but impractical for working on a laptop. Photo: eingecheckt.de

The room also had a small balcony overlooking the rear courtyard. Here, too, reality fell short of what you would imagine a pleasant retreat to be. The view was not very inviting, and air-conditioning units stood on a neighbouring roof, their noise clearly audible. We did not find much reason to enjoy the view.

![View from the balcony into the rear courtyard with trees and neighbouring roofs](https://storage.ghost.io/c/d1/eb/d1eb58be-ccd0-43e1-b101-0e16365e0b9f/content/images/2026/11/quentin-boutique-hotel-berlin-balkon.jpg)

One thing, however, worked superbly: the electric curtains. They could be opened and closed conveniently from the bed and darkened the room very reliably. It was to remain one of the few features that truly won us over. Given the view of the rear courtyard, the fact that we kept the curtains closed most of the time anyway was almost a little ironic.

Stylish at first glance: the bathroom with its black-and-white floor and designer fittings. Photo: eingecheckt.de

## The real problem was not the age but the state of upkeep

A hotel does not have to be new to be good. Older furnishings can keep their charm as long as they are well maintained and technically sound. At the Quentin Boutique Hotel, however, we increasingly had the impression that a considerable gap had opened up between the original design ambition and the current condition.

This was most obvious in the bathroom. At first glance, the room's extravagant design continued here. A black-and-white patterned floor, light wall panelling and angular fittings were evidently meant to convey a high-quality, exceptional impression. On closer inspection, though, we were faced with a picture that had little in common with this design.

![Walk-in shower with a glass screen, rain shower head and black-and-white tiled floor](https://storage.ghost.io/c/d1/eb/d1eb58be-ccd0-43e1-b101-0e16365e0b9f/content/images/2026/11/quentin-boutique-hotel-berlin-dusche.jpg)

The shower with its glass screen – this is how it looks at first glance. Photo: eingecheckt.de

Large matt and whitish discolorations ran across the black floor tiles. Along the wall joints and in the grout, dark residues and light deposits were visible. Some areas looked downright corroded, others dirty or encrusted. Especially in the corners and around the shower area, the transitions between floor and wall looked extremely neglected. Whether this was limescale, cleaning product residue, surface damage or a combination of causes, we could not determine. Either way, the visible condition was a long way from what we understand by a carefully maintained hotel bathroom.

![Black floor tiles with whitish, matt discoloration](https://storage.ghost.io/c/d1/eb/d1eb58be-ccd0-43e1-b101-0e16365e0b9f/content/images/2026/11/quentin-boutique-hotel-berlin-bodenfliesen.jpg)

The fittings were a similar story. The strikingly designed tap at the washbasin was marked by stubborn deposits and discoloration in several places. Clear residues had built up around the moving parts and the base in particular. On top of that came a very practical problem: the tap leaked, so water got into the area around the washbasin. We could also hear disruptive noises from the fittings or pipes. What looked like a high-quality designer piece at first glance turned out to be far from convincing in daily use.

![Angular designer tap with deposits and water droplets](https://storage.ghost.io/c/d1/eb/d1eb58be-ccd0-43e1-b101-0e16365e0b9f/content/images/2026/11/quentin-boutique-hotel-berlin-wasserhahn-1.jpg)

The shower did not leave a better impression either. The water pressure was disappointingly weak for us. Numerous deposits were visible on the shower head, as well as on the shower screen and various surfaces in the shower area. The underside of the toilet seat showed extensive yellowish discoloration. Whether this was caused by deposits or a permanent change in the material, we cannot say. In either case, we would have expected a much better maintained condition in a hotel with these ambitions.

![Rain shower head with numerous light-coloured deposits](https://storage.ghost.io/c/d1/eb/d1eb58be-ccd0-43e1-b101-0e16365e0b9f/content/images/2026/11/quentin-boutique-hotel-berlin-duschkopf.jpg)

There were further details: the light on the make-up mirror did not work, a long, dull stain stood out on the floor tiles, and the toiletries were essentially limited to a single liquid soap for various uses. A hairdryer was provided. The textiles showed signs of wear, too. One towel was badly frayed in several places, with loose threads and damaged edges. In our view, it should have been taken out of service long ago.

![Black-and-white floor tiles with dull patches and stains](https://storage.ghost.io/c/d1/eb/d1eb58be-ccd0-43e1-b101-0e16365e0b9f/content/images/2026/11/quentin-boutique-hotel-berlin-fliese-fleck.jpg)

It was precisely this combination that bothered us more and more. A single limescale-covered tap can happen. A damaged tile or a stain does not necessarily mean that an entire bathroom is poorly kept either. But when you come across conspicuous deposits, worn surfaces, damaged textiles, a leaking tap and faulty equipment in so many places, a different picture emerges. We did not feel we were looking at isolated cosmetic flaws, but at a considerable need for cleaning and maintenance.

Outside the bathroom, too, we found signs of careless upkeep. The glass in the lift looked smeary and dirty, and daily room cleaning was only provided on explicit request. Such a concept is perfectly defensible if it is clearly communicated and carefully implemented. Given the condition in which we had found our room, however, there was one thing above all that we would have wished for: more attention to basic cleanliness.

![Double bed with white linen, bedside lamps and an upholstered bench at the foot](https://storage.ghost.io/c/d1/eb/d1eb58be-ccd0-43e1-b101-0e16365e0b9f/content/images/2026/11/quentin-boutique-hotel-berlin-bett.jpg)

The bed looks inviting, but the mattresses were badly worn. Photo: eingecheckt.de

## When the bed of all things becomes the biggest problem

By the evening at the latest, we wanted to put the day behind us. After the cumbersome arrival and the first disappointments in the room, we were looking forward to a restful night. But it was the bed, of all things, that revealed another considerable weakness.

The mattresses were badly worn, especially in the middle. Instead of being evenly supported, we sank into a proper hollow. That was not only uncomfortable but, with a sensitive back, downright unpleasant. For us, a decent mattress is one of the most important features of a hotel room, regardless of whether the hotel has two, four or five stars. An exceptional design certainly cannot make up for poor sleeping comfort.

At first, there was only one large shared duvet on the double bed. When we asked for a second one, the staff brought it without any fuss. That was pleasingly straightforward. Less pleasing, however, was that the cover of the additional duvet was torn. Yet another detail that really should have been noticed when the room was prepared.

At least there were some positive aspects when it came to sleeping. We found the pillows comfortable, and the blackout provided by the electric curtains was excellent. We were also surprised at how little of Berlin's usual city noise reached our room. On the sixth floor, at least some of the outside noise seemed to be well shielded.

Even so, it was not completely quiet. Besides the air-conditioning units on the neighbouring roof, the position of our room at the end of a corridor leading to a stairwell made itself felt. There was movement there at night, too. The room doors were particularly unpleasant, as they could hardly be closed quietly and fell shut with a clearly audible bang. The result was a strange mix of surprisingly good insulation against some outside noise and avoidable noise inside the building.

When it came to sleep comfort, our disappointment with the mattresses outweighed everything else. For while you can argue at length about the colour of a lobby or taste in furnishings, a worn-out mattress remains a very tangible problem.

## Friendliness was there, professionalism not always

It would be unfair to blame the hotel's weaknesses wholesale on the staff. The employees we dealt with were mostly friendly towards us. Our request for an extra duvet was met without any fuss, and at check-in, too, the effort to make things run smoothly was evident.

At the same time, we missed the professionalism we expect in this hotel category in several places. We did not receive any really helpful support with questions about our arrival and luggage. Communication at reception was not always easy, and some processes seemed poorly thought through. This included the use of the relatively small lift by the cleaning staff. Whenever a cleaning trolley was parked in it, we were sometimes unable to use the lift.

None of this is a major drama in itself. On a three-day business trip, however, it is precisely the small inconveniences that add up. When parking is already complicated, the workspace in the room is impractical and even the lift is not always available, a stay noticeably loses comfort. Friendliness makes a lot of things more pleasant, but it cannot fully make up for organisational and technical shortcomings.

![Room with entrance door, wardrobe, desk, bench and air-conditioning vent in the ceiling](https://storage.ghost.io/c/d1/eb/d1eb58be-ccd0-43e1-b101-0e16365e0b9f/content/images/2026/11/quentin-boutique-hotel-berlin-technik.jpg)

## Technical equipment: not everything that works is convincing

As far as the basic technical equipment was concerned, we did have some positive experiences. The Wi-Fi worked well during our stay, we had no notable problems with the TV, and the charging options were mostly usable.

The lighting controls, however, proved to be another small challenge. One bedside lamp could not be switched off. In the end, we had to pull out the bedside table and unplug it to get rid of the light. It was another example of the fact that an unusually designed room is not automatically a well-thought-out room.

Another observation, however, made us stop and think far more. Through the vents of the air-conditioning unit, coloured cables and sections wrapped in silver tape were visible inside. We neither opened the casing nor touched the wiring. We cannot judge whether the installation was technically and electrically sound; that would only be possible through an expert inspection. Even so, the visible condition struck us as unusual, especially given the many other issues in the room.

![Coloured cables wrapped in silver tape, visible at the air-conditioning unit](https://storage.ghost.io/c/d1/eb/d1eb58be-ccd0-43e1-b101-0e16365e0b9f/content/images/2026/11/quentin-boutique-hotel-berlin-kabel.jpg)

Visible without opening anything: coloured cables and silver tape at the air-conditioning unit. Photo: eingecheckt.de

We expressly do not want to infer a technical safety defect that we cannot prove. It was, however, one more point that made us wonder how carefully the hotel's equipment is checked and maintained.

## At breakfast, we suddenly experienced a different hotel

After all these experiences, you might assume that the disappointment continued at breakfast. In fact, the opposite was true. It was here, of all places, that the Quentin Boutique Hotel showed it is perfectly capable of delivering a convincing hotel experience.

The selection was plentiful, the quality of the food good and the buffet was replenished regularly. We experienced attentive, friendly service and an atmosphere that the background music suited well. The breakfast area also looked much better kept than our room. For the first time during our stay, we felt that ambition and actual performance largely matched.

Even this positive impression was not without its limitations, though. Some of the seating was arranged extremely tightly. If you are practically rubbing shoulders with the neighbouring tables, you inevitably overhear conversations you would rather not be part of. Especially in the morning, when you want to have breakfast in peace and perhaps plan your day, we found this unpleasant. The coffee machine did not work reliably either and broke down several times during our breakfast.

Nevertheless, this area was by far the most pleasant experience in the hotel for us. Here, the essentials were right: a good selection, decent quality and friendly service. That the separately paid breakfast, of all things, left such a positive impression while we were extremely dissatisfied with the actual accommodation also says a lot about our stay.

We did not use any other hotel facilities and therefore did not rate them.

![Long, narrow hotel room with a double bed at the far end and a mirror on the wall](https://storage.ghost.io/c/d1/eb/d1eb58be-ccd0-43e1-b101-0e16365e0b9f/content/images/2026/11/quentin-boutique-hotel-berlin-preis.jpg)

## Four stars on paper – but what does the guest get for them?

The longer we stayed at the Quentin Boutique Hotel, the more we found ourselves asking how big the gap between the promised hotel experience and the actual service is allowed to be. The photos on Booking.com had shown us an exceptionally designed hotel. On site, we did find this design approach. What the photos naturally conveyed less clearly were the many signs of wear, the dirt and the condition of individual furnishings.

After all, a hotel room is not a showroom. It not only has to look good but also has to work every day. You want to be able to store your luggage properly, work at the desk, find a clean bathroom and sleep comfortably at night. These are not exaggerated luxury demands but, for us, basic expectations of a hotel stay.

That is precisely why our verdict on value for money was extremely critical. The hotel operates in an upscale segment in which we expect correspondingly careful cleaning and maintenance. For the room quality actually provided, we felt the balance between price and performance was clearly off. The fact that we paid extra for the good breakfast did not change that. No other specific extra charges played a role during our stay.

We are aware that a single stay does not allow any conclusions about the condition of all the rooms in a hotel. We cannot judge whether other rooms are better maintained or have already been modernised. What we can judge, however, is the Classic Double Room in which we spent three nights. And its condition differed significantly in crucial respects from what we had imagined based on the hotel classification and the online presentation.

What is really regrettable is that we could clearly see what is supposed to set the Quentin Boutique Hotel apart. The idiosyncratic design has a certain character, the electric curtains are comfortable, breakfast works well and the welcome was friendly. But a boutique hotel does not thrive on looking different alone. It also has to live up to its design ambitions in day-to-day operations.

![Narrow balcony with a wooden folding chair, metal railing and a view of neighbouring buildings](https://storage.ghost.io/c/d1/eb/d1eb58be-ccd0-43e1-b101-0e16365e0b9f/content/images/2026/11/quentin-boutique-hotel-berlin-fazit.jpg)

Lots of design, little upkeep: in the end, it was mainly the shortcomings that stayed with us. Photo: eingecheckt.de

## Our verdict: an interesting concept that fails on the basics

At the end of our stay, what stayed with us was less the extravagant furnishings than a series of things that should really be a matter of course: clean surfaces, intact textiles, working fittings and a bed you can sleep in properly. Precisely because we had deliberately chosen a hotel with a special design, our disappointment was great.

We do not want to overlook what worked well. Breakfast was genuinely convincing, the staff were mostly friendly and the room's blackout was excellent. The sometimes surprisingly low level of outside noise from Berlin was also a plus. It is just that, in the end, these were not the experiences that defined our stay.

Instead, we will probably remember for some time the suitcases we had to wheel a kilometre through Charlottenburg, the chewing gum on the chair, the damaged curtains, the state of the bathroom and the mattresses that you practically sank into in the middle. These are not spectacular stories. But they are exactly the kind of experiences that decide whether you feel comfortable in a hotel and are happy to come back.

We found it particularly disappointing how many of the shortcomings seem fundamentally avoidable. Thorough cleaning, intact bed linen, well-kept fittings and the timely replacement of worn textiles are, for us, among the basics of a professionally run hotel. Whatever can no longer be cleaned may need to be repaired or replaced. That does not require a new design concept, but above all consistent upkeep and regular checks.

For the Quentin Boutique Hotel, our answer after these three nights is clear: under the conditions we experienced, we would not book it again. The shortcomings were too numerous and affected too many fundamental areas of the stay.

And perhaps it is our small highlight, of all things, that sums up the stay most aptly: the electric curtains worked superbly. We just wish the same attention had been paid to the things that really matter when it comes to looking after the room.

## Who is the Quentin Boutique Hotel suitable for?

For trade fair visitors, the location may still be of interest, especially if they are not arriving by car. Those who like dark, unusual interior concepts might also take to the design at first. However, we can only recommend the offer we tested with considerable reservations to travellers who place particular value on well-kept rooms, comfortable beds and an uncomplicated stay.

## The eingecheckt® Score: 55 out of 100 points

The Quentin Boutique Hotel Berlin is officially classified as a four-star hotel. This classification should not be confused with our editorial eingecheckt® Score.

**We do not award hotel stars.**

Our eingecheckt® Score reflects only how we experienced our particular stay from 22 to 25 October 2026.

We rated our actual experiences with location and arrival, check-in, room, cleanliness, sleep comfort, bathroom, service, breakfast, value for money and technical equipment.

While breakfast in particular stood out positively, considerable shortcomings in room upkeep, cleanliness and bed comfort led to a significant downgrade. Value for money did not convince us either.

Other hotel facilities were not tested and were therefore not rated. They were not included in the score, nor were they artificially assigned zero points.

The overall rating thus reflects a stay in which individual good services could not make up for the considerable weaknesses in essential areas.
